Does anyone have any information about Edward THORP (b. September 1834 in Wheeling, West Virginia; d. Dec. 21, 1885 in Oneida Co., Idaho) who married Sarah Amanda WILLIAMS (b. GUINN, GUINNVILLE posted by Bernice Knoke on Tuesday, July 3, 2007

My husband and I recently purchased an old house in the Guinn Addition of Belle Plaine formerly known as Guinnville. We are renovating the house and would like to know more about the people who put it together. I say that because as we uncovered years of wall paper, and lathe and plaster, we discovered four layers of wall paper affixed to the wood siding. The wood had been painted with a milk wash paint, I believe. From the abstract, we found that LeGrand Byington was the owner of the land from 1854 to 1896 when Melvin J GUINN laid out the lots. (Town Plat). There are two parts to the house, the oldest being the part with the wall paper and the second, I believe, is an old school house that was brought from the Southeastern part of town later on and attached to the first building. We are at 608 5th Avenue.

My husband and I are renovating the house for our retirement. Currently we live in Waterloo in an historical area (Highland) and so enjoy the history of old houses. As we have been getting down to barebones, we have found artifacts that could very well date back to the mid 1800s in the wall papered part of the house. We plan to incorporate the old paper in to the design of the house. I would appreciate any information that you might have. Sincerely, Bernice Knoke
