COAT, COATS, JACKSON, LEAVELL, PATTY, SWISHER, WILLIAMS posted by Connie Sunnarborg on Tuesday, March 3, 1998

COAT(E)S and PATTY family information needed. Specifically decendants of George Coats or Coates born in North Carolina 09 Oct 1806. Married first to Mary Lucinda JACKSON aka: Polly, 2nd to Gabrilla SWISHER, 3rd Rachel WILLIAMS, & 4th to Martha LEAVELL. George and Martha moved to Benton County Iowa, Kane Township in the 1850's along with the PATTY family. Both families were in the Benton County census for 1860. David PATTY married Mary COATS, George's daughter. David PATTY family was listed in Iowa Township in the 1860 census. Both families came from Miami county, Ohio. David and Mary PATTY were the parents of my Great- grandfather Theodore PATTY. It is my understanding that George Coats died in LaMars, Plymouth County, Iowa and was buried in Belle Plain. Any information would be appreciated.

COATES, INMAN, LEAVELL posted by Edie Rodriguez on Friday, March 6, 1998

COATES, George W. and LEAVELL, Martha were married in 1854 in Miami County, Ohio. Sometime after that, they moved to Belle Plain, Benton County, Iowa and had four more children, two of which died. After George died, I don't know when, Martha Coates moved to California between 1895 and 1900. The two Coates children that survived were Ranalden Lycurgus Coates, b. 3-4-1855 and Alvin Esta Coates, b. 3-31-1860. I am not sure if these two were b. in Iowa, but I suspect they were, because I have not found the graves of the other two in Miami County, which has good records of graves. I would also be interested in any information on Martha's daughter, Rachel Jane LEAVELL and her m. to William INMAN, possibly Benton or Marshall County, Iowa on Feb. 13, 1864. Any information on this family would be appreciated greatly. Thank you.

BLACKBURN posted by Margaret (Blackburn) Ellis on Thursday, March 12, 1998

BLACKBURN, David & Elizabeth, Benton or Linn Co, Shellsburg, Iowa. I am looking for information on the above couple who were my Great-Grandparents. I know they lived in Shellsburg in February 14, 1872 when my Grandfather Richard Harry Blackburn was born. Also, lived in Linn Co where a daughter Vienna was born. I would like to know if there are other children and if they stayed in Iowa or did they also come to Nebraska when my Grandfather came in 1890. Would be interested to know what nationality they are --I was always under the impression it was English. Would like to hear from anyone with more information on the family. Thank you.
