Searching for descendants of Erastus L. SMALLEY (1831) and Martha M. BRADLEY (1829) of Vinton, Benton Co, IA. The SMALLEYs arrived in Benton Co. from MI in mid-1860s along with their only child, J. Curtis SMALLEY (1855). Erastus was a painter and his son a harness maker. J. Curtis SMALLEY married about 1881 to Mary "unknown" and had three children: Bessie, 1882; Curtis J., 1886; and son Faye (Fayette?), in 1890. They eventually settled in Fayette Co. Erastus and Martha SMALLEY were last located in Vinton in the 1900 census -- any additional information would be appreciated.

The "CUE Township" is named in the 1860 Benton Census. But it,s not listed in your Benton County township map ! Did Cue twp. change name -perhaps to Florence Twp. - or an another twp? When ? Hope somebody knows!! Several people from Hjelmeland, Rogaland, Norway are listed in this 1860 census.

KITCHEN- William and Faith known to be in Benton County from 1880-1887/8. William was a miller by occupation. Had lived in Jackson County and also Savannah, Ill prior to that time period and moved back to Savannah in late 1880's. According to wife's obit, they had 9 children, but only 1 was living at the time of her death in 1890. Do any cemeteries in Benton county contain KITCHEN gravestones. This is my husband's maternal line. Looking for any KITCHEN info from Benton County. Phyllis Dearborn
