COLE, PATTEN, TRACY I am trying to verify information on following ancestors known to have been in this county at least for a time. John Derbin Cole (b.21 Sep 1826 OH) married Nancy Drucilla Patten (b.Abt 1831 OH) 23 May 1851 in Cass County, IN. They moved to Iowa in 1853, according to Iowa 1856 Census, and settled in Iowa County, Merango Twp. John D. Cole obtained a land patent in Dec 1854. The 1860 Census for Merango shows Nancy and 3 children: Oliver and Henry (sons) and Emma? (Dau) but husband John is not listed with the family. I suspect he was involved with civil war but have not verified. I have located a burial site at Koszta Cemetary for a John D. Cole in 1862. From what I can determine from 1870 – 1900 census records, Nancy may have remarried a William or Nelson Tracy and had several children with him. Son Oliver (by John D. Cole) was living with Nancy in 1900 in Benton County, Iowa. For the years 1870 and 1880, Nancy, Oliver and rest of new family were living in Nebraska, Fillmore County. Have not been able to locate state, location or date of this marriage, nor death information on Nancy. I would like to have anyone who finds this information familiar contact me: chawkins@wvi.com

Looking for info on the William Evan BURD family. William was born in IL in abt 1881, and married Mable E. MATTER in abt 1876 in IL. His son was named Eugene and was born abt 1910 and possibly in Col. according to the 1920 Federal Census. His daughter was named Carolyn and was born in IA in abt 1913. William owned Burd Hardware Store in Mount Auburn in 1920. On the 1930 Federal census he is listed as living alone, but married for abt 27 yrs. in Mount Auburn as a salesman of stock foods. According to a history written by another Burd researcher, he also owned a hardware store in Vinton. This same researcher states that in about 1925, he moved his family to FL for about 2 years. His wife predeceased him by several years. He also was reported to own many acres of farmland. Thank you in advance for any help anyone is able to give me.
