Yes, we have corresponded before and met once at the local library in Fairfield when I was there doing my genealogical research.
It is too bad there is absolutely nothing to find out more about William Basford and his background, even though he's no blood relation of mine.
You could very well be right about William's possible burial at Perlee Cemetery, especially if there is no known list of persons being buried there and you could not find him at any other burial in Jefferson County. Besides that, it makes sense he could be buried at Perlee Cemetery because (1) Perlee is close to Antioch Church, where Colonel William G. Coop, his wife and some relatives are buried, (2) as you said, there were some coal mines near the town and (3) I am sure Isabell Nancy "Belle" Higgins was born near Perlee to Silas and Nancy Ann Coop Parks.
I noticed from the census record that William Basford apparently was from Texas. It may be worth to search for him there, but probably harder to find out cuz William is such a common name.
What about local newspapers? Aren't there possible mentions of any coal mine accident at Perlee or near there in the local newspaper during the time frame of Mr. Basford's life?
