Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Joseph Catholic church in Garnavillo for Mrs. Edmund Ruff, 65, of Garnavillo. The services were conducted by the Rev. L. C. Ickel and burial was in the St. Joseph's cemetery in Garnavillo.
Mrs. Ruff, the former Clara Berns, died at 4:30 a.m., Nov. 12, at Mercy hospital in Dubuque after a lingering illness.
Born December 14, 1889, in Farmersburg township. Mrs. Ruff was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Berns of Monona. On March 01, 1916, she was married to Edmund Ruff.
Survivors are Mr. Ruff, two sons and two daughters: Edmund Ruff Jr., of McGregor; Erwin Ruff of Garnavillo; Mrs. Alice Ellwanger of Sycamore, Ill.; and Helen, at home. Also surviving are three brothers, Alex Berns and Linus Berns of Monona and Albert Berns of Garnavillo, and five grandchildren.
Her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Matt and Hildegard Berns, and a brother who died in infancy, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ruff had lived on farms in National all her life and moved to town in July of this year with her husband and daughter Helen.
Pallbearers were: Louis Matt, Sr., Albert Schmelzer, Ed. Schmelzer, Leo Schoulte, Frank Hohman, and Harry Eulberg. Honorary pallbearers of the Rosary society were: Mrs. Henry Eulberg, Mrs. Hubert Hass, Mrs. Pearl Auer, Mrs. Wm. Wille, Mrs. Alvina Schmelzer, and Mrs. Cora Hudek.
