Services for Mrs. John (Hilda) Kafar, 71, were held July 11, 1974. Burial was in Mount Harmony Cemetery at Elkport. The Rev. Ted Newton, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Elkader, officiated.
Mrs. Kafar died July 9 at the Mental Health Institute in Elkader.
Born Hilda Horstman on February 8, 1903 in Volga Township she was a daughter of Henry and Anna Meyer Horstman.
On February 21, 1922, she was married to John A. Kafar in a wedding ceremony at Elkport. A daughter, Lavonne Viola, died in infancy. Another daughter, Betty Ann, was born in 1934 and died in 1938. Her husband died in 1960.
Surviving are three brothers and three sisters: Clarence Horstman, Colesburg; Harvey Horstman, Guttenberg; Alfred Horstman, Elkader; Mabel Horstman, Guttenberg; Mrs. Harvey (Bernice) Gottschalk, Garnavillo; Pauline Horstman, Elkader.
Pallbearers were: Louis Kuehl, John Kuehl Jr., Eugene Horstman and Owen Moser.
Relatives from Guttenberg, Colesburg, Greeley and Elkport attended her last rites.
