Funeral services for Gustav J. Graf, 67, veteran Elkader realtor, insurance man and official, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Elkader Congregational church. Interment will be in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. David G. Howell and the Rev. Paul Kitterer will officiate at the services.
Graf collapsed and died almost immediately at his home in East Elkader Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, from a heart attack. He was assisting Fred Ihlenfeldt in putting on storm windows on his home when the attack came.
Ihlenfeldt said that he was working on the outside while Graf was on the inside of the house. Ihlenfeldt, from the outside of a window, saw Graf suddenly sink to the floor. He was gone before medical aid cold be summoned.
Graf was treasurer of Clayton county from 1914 to 1918. At the time of his death he was a member of the Clayton county board of review. He was also a member of the Congregational church.
He was born August 5, 1888, at Strawberry Point and was a son of the Rev. Gustav A. Graf and Wilhelmina Loeb Graf. In 1911 he was married to Iowa Hempel, of Elkader, who preceded her husband in death on June 10, 1953.
Survivors are: a daughter, Mrs. Mary Speer of Ames; two brothers, Arnold of Denver, Colo., and Irvin of Elgin, Ill., and three sisters, Miss Lydia Graf of Dubuque, Mrs. Ottilia Becker of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Mrs. Helen Ide of Mitchell, Iowa.
