Not a query, so much as some comments and corrections. I'm a direct descendant of Frank J. Peebles (sometimes mispelled Pebbles, because that's the way many family members pronounced it) and Maud Meeker. My mom's family Bible shows Maud's father named Orlando, not Romanzo, and my grandfather Jerome M. Peebles was born January 7, 1897. He died February 22, 1985 in Denver and is buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver CO. This info was found after the fact searching Social Security and VA records. He abandoned my grandmother Mildred (Weyant) Peebles and their four children in or around 1940, and moved west without telling anyone where. My great-uncle Dwayne (not Duane) visited us in Massachusetts in the mid-1960s. I never met Frances. Frank and Maude had a fourth child, listed only as "infant" in the 1900 census, and apparently died in infancy. I have my grandfather Jerome's 1916 Protection (Kansas) high school yearbook, in which he's pictured wearing his WWI navy uniform. I do remember my mom and dad mentioning a stop in White, SD some years ago in one of their cross-country driving vacations and I guess this - looking for her grandmother's resting place - was the reason for it.
I can't begin to tell you how shocked and excited I was to find this post! It's always a treat to fill in pieces of my family history. If anyone would care to have my Peebles family history information, please feel free to email me. I'd be so glad to share it. I have found dozens of family and relatives, going back to Patrick Peebles of Antrim Ireland who came to America in 1718 and helped found Pelham MA as a young man. Thanks so much for the post and all the hard work behind it.
Almost forgot - I'm married to a Sarah Little myself!
Regards -
