Ed, I know you have been looking for Mary’s death date for several years and have several queries out trying to locate information. I had previously in the past looked for you in the Belmond and Rowan cemeteries with no luck. Her first husband, Romanzo Meeker is buried at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan along with his mother and sister and Mary and Romanzo’s child, Ross Meeker (who died in August 1909).
According to the 1900 census for Pleasant Twp., Wright County, Iowa, Mary L. Meeker (born July 1852 in Ohio) was widowed and her daughter, Mabel M. Meeker (born Aug 1877, Iowa) was living with her. According to the 1895 Wright County state census, Mary (age 42 born Ohio) was enumerated along with Mabel M. Meeker (age 18 born in Franklin County, Iowa) and Ross (age 15 born in Franklin County, Iowa). In the 1885 Wright County state census, Mary Meeker, age 32, born Ohio, Maude Meeker, age 11 born Iowa, Mabel Meeker, age 7, born Iowa and Ross, age 6 born Iowa.
I thought that solving this research problem stemmed on locating Maude and Mabel. Mary (Dalrymple) Meeker Jenkins was married to Edgar Jenkins and enumerated in Wright County in 1920 and 1930 with him. She was 77 in 1930 according to the census. Your family information is that they were divorced after 1930 and that she was no longer living by 1940 when she would have been 87 years of age.
I located Maude Meeker married to Frank Jarred Pebbles and living in Brookings County, South Dakota (1910); Crooked Creek, Meade County, Kansas (1920) and Richland, Ford County, Kansas (1930). Further research on them located Frank dying ca 1948 and Maude in March 1945. They had three children: Jerome Minor Pebbles (born 7 Jan 1896 born in Iowa); Frank Duane Pebbles (born 9 Feb 1906 in Protection, Kansas) and Frances E. Pebbles (born 17 Oct 1908); I thought that perhaps Maude’s mother, Mary died in Kansas after 1930 but could not locate a record.
I then looked for Mabel in South Dakota and Kansas thinking she may have lived there also. Not knowing her married name was a little frustrating but I believe that I located her as Mabel M. Ferrell (age 41 born in Iowa/father born New York and mother born Ohio) enumerated in 1920 in White City, Sherman Twp., Brookings County, South Dakota with her husband, William A. Ferrell (age 54 born New York) and her son, William A. Ferrell (age 12 born in South Dakota). They are still living there in 1930.
Then I searched for Mary L. Meeker AKA Dalrymple AKA Jenkins in South Dakota and Eureka!! A Mary L. Meeker died in Brookings County, South Dakota on 11 February 1936, death certificate #167461. This looks very promising. If this is she, then she went up to South Dakota to be with her daughter and died there. White, South Dakota is a very small town. Perhaps she is buried there --If indeed this is her.
