Jalla Ruter Saatoff's parents were Reint (Rhinert) R. Saatoff and Margaret (Grete) Ruter. Reint Saatoff was born 22 July 1854 in Germany and died 7 Jul 1911 in Belmond, Wright County, Iowa; Margaret/Grete (Ruter) Saatoff was born 22 January 1856 in Freeport, Illinois and died 9 May 1944 in Clear Lake, Iowa. They are both buried in the Belmond Cemetery. Other spellings of Ruter are Reuter and Ruiter. Mrs. Saatoff's obituary follows:
AGED WOMAN DIES AT HOME
Mrs. R. R. Saatoff, 88, Succumbs to IllnessClear Lake—Mrs. Rient R. Saatoff, 88, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Zielie, 315 N. Oak street, about 7 o'clock Tuesday evening after an illness of 8 weeks. Mrs. Saatoff had lived in Clear Lake about a year, coming from Bricelyn, Minn., where she had formerly made her home with Mrs. Zielie for several years. Mrs. Saatoff was born Margaret Ruiter at Freeport, Ill., Jan. 22, 1856. When a girl of 12 she came with her parents by oxcart to Ackley, crossing the Mississippi river at Dubuque by ferry. In 1877 she was married to Mr. Saatoff who preceded her in death 33 years ago and is buried at Belmond. The couple lived on farms near Ackley, Belmond and other towns until they retired to a home in Belmond. Besides Mrs. Zielie, Mrs. Saatoff is survived by 3 other daughters, Mrs. Mary Pals, Swaledale; Mrs. John Kessler, Belmond, and Mrs. Theodore Kessler, Elma; 3 sons, Henry Saatoff, Hampton; Rudolph Saatoff, Burt, and Jalla Saatoff, Waubon, Minn., 29 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Two children died in infancy. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Williams funeral home. Burial will be in Belmond.

Clear Lake—Funeral services for Mrs. R. R. Saatoff, 88, who died Tuesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Zielie, 315 N. Oak street, will be held in the Methodist church at Belmond at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. A prayer service will be held at the home in Clear Lake at 12:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Belmond cemetery. Williams funeral home is in charge.May 11, 1944
