There was a CATHOLIC ORPHANAGE named ST.MARY"S on Kaufman Ave. for many years. Also, a home for girls Mary of the Angels that housed alot of girls ran by the FRANCISICAN NUNS.It was located
at 6th and Bluff st. I would call the convent at the mother house on Davis Ave. Dubuque,Iowa
The name Mount St.Francis. There may also be some info. through the Dubuque Catholic charities. It is located on Mt.Loretta near Bryant St. Dubuque.Alot of the nuns are still around the mother house. The time frame you are loking into there was alot of BVM's,Franciscan,Good Shepard and Domenican nuns. There is a priest FATHER BILL MENSTER that worked with orphans. He is still living to the best of my knowledge.I heard he lives on bluff st. Dubuque,Iowa. They say he is from Cascade,Iowa.
Good luck in your search. In those days alot of records were sealed.MARY OF THE ANGELS was a home for troubled girls.I would start there first.Try to get in touch with a SISTER MARILLA she worked at XAVIER HOSPITAL IN the OB wing at least 50 yrs.ago.She is very sharp and still lives at Mount St.Frances mother house.Dubuque,Iowa You may get farther with her as she worked in labor and delivery. XAVIER HOSPITAL is no longer there.
Let me know how it goes
