My brothers and I were orphans at St Mary's from 1959-1961. I do have a few pictures of the front of the building, with my brothers in them as well as one taken in the back close to where the garden was. I remember my days there very well and have spoken to one of my Dorm mates from that period, Ravonna (Bonnie) Harry who lives in St Paul, Mn. Bonnie knows a lot of the history of the years that we were there. Fr Thomas Rhomberg was head of St Mary's at that time. The orphanage was located at 2909 Kaufmann Ave. Whe I went back there in 1974 the building was being used as a day school for the retarded? Sr Mary Claudette O.S.F. was the head Nun while I was there. My house mother was Sr Mary Innocence O.S.F. she was from China and was a very strict woman, who didn't tolerate much of my somewhat ornery disposition. I learned a lot at St Mary's and have always gained strength from those days...We had a lot of fun times and I remember the fun summer picnics and hiking to Eagle Point Park on many a Saturday. We all attended school at St Raphael's where I was in 6th 7th and 8th grades... my email address is candyandrambo444@yahoo.com.
