Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Bente were held from the family residence at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon and at the Congregational Christian church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Kitterer of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church officiated. Burial was at the East Side cemetery.
Mrs. Bente died at her home in Elkader at 6:30 o'clock, Wednesday evening, July 25, 1951, following a three year illness. Death was due to Leukemia.
Anna Edna Christofferson was born at Postville, April 05, 1899, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Christofferson. She had reached the age of 52 years, 3 months and 20 days at the time of her death.
She received her education in the rural school near her home. On Dec. 08, 1920, at Postville, she was united in marriage to Harry Bente of Elkader. They began housekeeping on a farm in Read township six miles east of Elkader where they resided until 1946 when they retired and moved to Elkader.
As a girl Mrs. Bente was a member of the Methodist church in Postville. After her marriage she united with the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Elkader. She was also a member of the Women's Guild of that church.
She is survived by her husband, eight brothers and three sisters, namely: Henry Christofferson, Monona; Louis and Elmer, Frankville; Mrs. Hollie (Velma) Engart, Elbe, William, Herman and Harvey, all of Postville; Leonard and Mrs. Albert (Alice) Backhaus, Luana; Mrs. Fred (Clara) Bente, Elkader, also a large number of nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were eight nephews: Robert Engart, Lester Schulte, Kenneth Wilke, Lennis Mork, Dorwin Ellis, Glen Bente, Leo Christofferson and Lloyd Bente.
Flower girls were six nieces: Iva Mae Wilke, Reta Christofferson, Jean Christofferson, Janice Christofferson, Myrna Christofferson, and Mary Engart.
Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Knight, Fenimore, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Muschewske, Elvyn Schulte and Francis Millard, all of Cedar Rapids; Irving Bente, Dumont; Mr. and Mrs. Art Jenson, Osage; Ruben and Herman Christofferson, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Schulte, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Muller, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Strein, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilke, all of Farmersburg; Mrs. Anna Meese, Littleport; Mrs. Margaret Muller, Garber; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Johanningmeier, Luana.
