Clayton County Register, 26 July 1951.
The body of Mariamo Garcia Mireles, Glenhaven, Wis., was found in the Mississippi river four miles south of Guttenberg Wednesday evening by Clarence Cassutt, Guttenberg fisherman.
Ed. Tuecke, Clayton county coroner, pronounced the man dead since Saturday afternoon by accidental drowning.
Mireles was last seen by Ralph Tate in Ferry Slough near Glenhaven. At that time Mireles, evidently intoxicated, was riding in a boat which he had stolen from Loui Bloom, Glenhaven.
The boat was found Sunday morning by a Guttenberg youth who also found Mireles' billfold and credentials lying on the floor boards of the boat.
After finding the body Deputy Sheriff Milton Klink and Norbert Kuehl, Guttenberg policeman, took a ferry to Glenhaven where they notified Deputy Sheriff Schumacher of Grant county, Wis., and Glenn Johnson, foreman of the extra railroad gang on which Mireles worked, of his death.
Sheriff Forrest Fischer, who was a member of the investigating party, made an unsuccessful attempt to notify Mireles sister and only living relative in Detroit.
The body was taken to Guttenberg where it was buried Thursday morning.
Other members of the investigating party were Deputy Coroner Cornelius Tuecke and County Clerk H. H. Ward.
