Clayton County Register, 19 July 1951.

The death of Edward Joseph Farrell, 67, occurred Friday, July 13, at 5 p.m. at the Manchester Memorial hospital where he had been a patient since the previous Monday night.

Mr. Farrell seemed to be in the best of health and had visited his sister, Mrs. Estelle Eager, at Mitchell, S. Dak., recently. The day after he returned home he suffered a severe stroke, from which he never recovered.

Born May 10, 1883, on a farm in Boardman township, Clayton county, he was the son of John and Bridget Farrell. He attended the rural school near his home.

On Nov. 28, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Fredrick at Strawberry Point. They farmed for a number of years, and in 1928 moved to Volga which has since been their home.

Surviving are his wife at home, two sons, Edward of Strawberry Point, and Joe of Charles City; seven daughters, Mrs. Sirenus (Mildred) Kraus, Elkader, Mrs. Clinton (Mae) Conrey, Mason City, Mrs. Andrew (Lucille) Kozul, Troy, Ohio, Mrs. Herman (Marian) Hakert, Garber, Mrs. Clifton (Calista) Clauson, Waterloo, Mrs. Ernest (Irene) Thyer, Winthrop, and Patricia Farrell at home; sixteen grandchildren, and three sisters, Miss Julia Farrell, Elkader, Mrs. Estelle Eager, Mitchell, S. Dak., and Mrs. Will Ecker, West Union.

One son, Pvt. John Farrell, was killed in 1944 in Italy in World War II.

Funeral services were held Monday at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart church.

The pastor, the Rev. Robert J. Spahn, was celebrant of the requiem high mass. The Rev. Father Robert Swift of Oelwein was present in the sanctuary.

Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery at Elkader. Father Spahn officiated at the grave side.

Casket bearers were: William Ehrhardt, William Christeleit, Fred Kuehl, Michael Conboy, Cyril Kraus and Ray Welch.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Estelle Eager, Mitchell, S. Dak.; Mrs. Will Ecker, West Union; Mrs. Leo Mittin, Joe Farrell and family, Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Conrey, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Clauson, Waterloo; Julia Farrell, Elkader.
