Samuel F. Sloan was born in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa on October 28, 1861, and died Friday evening, March 02, 1951, at his home in town, having reached the age of 89 years, four months and two days. He was the son of William and Margaret Sloan.

On December 03, 1891, he was united in marriage with Eliza Jane Addison, and to this union was born four children.

He farmed the old homestead till 1905, then moved to a farm near Volga, where he lived until 1913, when he moved to town, which has been his home since.

He was preceded in death by his wife and two children Lillas Mae and Theodore Raymond, also three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving him are one daughter, Margaret, and one son, William, both at home, also nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Presbyterian church, with Rev. Cochrane officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Walter Roys, pianist, who accompanied Mrs. Helen Phillips and Mrs. Archie Fox, vocalists.

Pall bearers were Robert Duff, Oaklin Probert, Leo Becker, Fred Rinkert, Edward Larson and William Christeleit.

Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
