Virginia L. Muntz

Virginia L. Muntz, age 59, of Packwood, Iowa died Tuesday, April 10, 1990 at 11:45 p.m. at the Jefferson County Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past four years.

Born April 12, 1930 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of William F. and Louise Daum Balmer, she grew up in the Fort Madison ara.

She married James E. Muntz on February 27, 1954 at Sharon Church in Lee County. They moved near Hedrick in 1959, moving to the Packwood community in 1964 and had lived in Packwood since 1972.

Virginia had worked for the Schaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Fairfield Glove Company, Universal Producing in Fairfield, had served as custodian for the Farmers Savings Bank of Packwood, and had been a cook at Pekin Schools for seven years before her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her father, one brother Glen Granaman and one nephew, David Granaman.

Surviving are her husband; eight children, Danny Douthart of Lilburn, Georgia, Kenneth Douthart Jr. of West Point, Deb Connor and Kristi McKim of Libertyville, Vickie Heald and Randy Muntz of Packwood, Richie Muntz of Hedrick and Rusty Muntz of Fairfield; her mother, Louise Balmer of Ottumwa; three brothers, Bob Granaman of Martinsburg, Bill Balmer of Bloomfield, Dale Balmer of Ames; one sister, Mildred Sweetnam of Laurel, Maryland; and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, 1990 at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with Reverend Edith Dunkin officiating. Burial was in the Packwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Packwood Christian Church and the Packwood Community Center.
