Mabel M. Brown

Mabel Martha Brown, daughter of Harrison and Margaret Hutton Oliver, was born March 29, 1898 in Van Buren near Selma and died the morning of Saturday, April 21, 1990 at Sunnyslope Care Center, Ottumwa, at the age of 92.

She taught in rural schools and was a member of the Eldon Christian Church. She married Sylvester "Ves" Haney December 4, 1921. He passed away May 35, 1926. She then made her home with her parents and helped raise a niece. On February 20, 1934 she married Newell Brown and they lived in Eldon. He passed away September 21, 1946. She lived in Eldon until 1980 when she was no longer able to maintain her own home. She entered Sunnyslope in 1982. Surviving are a sister, Margaret Palmer, Nevada, Missouri, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Her parents, seven sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 23, 1990 at 2:30 p.m. in the Eldon Christian Church with John Walton, minister officiating. Interment was in Heidlebaugh Cemetery in Davis County southeast of Eldon. A memorial was established for her church. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.
