Jesse O. Scarff

Jesse O. Scarff, 86, Cheyenne, Wyo., died Thursday, March 8, at 10:17 p.m. at the Laramie County Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne.

He was born March 6, 1904, west of Trenton in Jefferson County, Iowa, the son of Earnest I. and Effie V. Huffman Jeffery.

After the death of his mother, he was adopted by John and Emma Scarff.

He married Hilliary L. Baughan on Oct. 3, 1928, at Mt. Pleasant. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1989.

He worked at the I.A.A.P., Burlington, for 30 years before moving to Wyoming. He was a volunteer for the Goodwill Industries at Cheyenne.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he also served as Sunday School superintendent.

He is survived by four sons, Jesse L., Reno, Nev.; John E., Omaha, Neb.; Michael G., Plano, Texas; Jeffery D. Cheyenne, Wyo.; six daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Valarie) Chipman, Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. Edward (Noma) Talbott, Plainfield, Ill.; Mrs. Frank (Linda) Fisher, Naperville, Ill.; Mrs. Jack (Diane) Peters, Highland, Calif.; Mrs. Ronald (Judy) Septer, Cheyenne, Wyo.;

Also, 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a foster sister, Ida Waldron, Carson City, Nev.; five half sisters, Mrs. Glen (Gladys) Poggemiller, West Burlington; Mrs. Delbert (Frieda) Pottorff, Ft. Madison; Mrs. John (Florence) Kite, Farmington; Mrs. Alva (Virgie) Rudd, Donnellson; and Velma Little, Kirksville, Mo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Cynthia L., seven half brothers, Edward, Frank, James, Kenneth, Willis, Charles, and Richard Jeffery, and three half sisters, Carol, Elsie, and Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 17, from the First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Dr. Virgil Fry officiating.

Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, March 15, at the Weir Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 16.
