Hazel Cupp

Hazel Scott Cupp, daughter of John Porter and Elizabeth Richardson Scott, was born March 8, 1890 south of Birmingham and died early the morning of Saturday, Oct. 6, 1990 at Heritage House Care Center in Atlantic at the age of 100.

She grew up near Birmingham and married William Valentine Cupp in Birmingham and Maxwell, and many years in Fairfield where they owned and operated apartment houses. Mr. Cupp died in 1960. Mrs. Cupp moved to Atlantic in1976 and into the Heritage House in 1980.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield, was a Past Most Excellent Chief of Fairfield Pythian Sisters and Past District Deputy Grand Chief of Pythian Sisters of Iowa. She had held all offices in Fairfield Rebekah Lodge No. 96 and was a member of the Fancy Work.

Surviving are daughter, Maxine Lyon and husband, Walter of Atlantic, two granddaughters, Patricia Petersen and husband, Gilbert of Nevada and Judith Kreckman and husband, James of Waterloo, four great grandchildren, Stacey and Leslie Petersen and Scott and Brent Kreckman, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Scott and two sisters, Nellie Rains and Etta Goodson Edmunds.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 1990 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Graveside services and interment were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8 in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield. A memorial was established for her church.
