Charles E. (Smitty) Smith

Charles E. (Smitty) Smith, 51, of Rural Route 3, Ottumwa, died Tuesday, February 20, 1990 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born Jully 3, 1938 in Ottumwa to Walter and Alice Carry Fairchild Smith. He graduated from the Selma in 1956 and was a member of the Selma United Methodist Church. He married Evy M. Pearson Feb. 20, 1959 in Fairfield. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1957-1963. He had been a seed corn salesman for Middlekoop and had worked as a Farmhand for John Schweitzer. He was an avid Hawkeye Fan. He was a member of the Coyote Club.

He is survived by his wife, Evy, two sons, Charles Smith, Jr. of Hedrick and Thomas J. Smith of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Yoder of Iowa City, and Mrs. Tamela Bowen of Ottumwa; four grandchildren; his mother Alice of Hedrick; and one brother Gary Smith of Hedrick. He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Walter Eugene.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 23, 1990 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marilyn Winch officiating. Burial was in McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center.

Fremont Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
