OBITUARY

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. JORGENSON

The funeral services for Mrs. John Jorgenson, whose death occurred at her home southwest of Story City on October 1, were held on Monday, October 5. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated at the home and at the Bethel church. Orville Olson sang two well chosen songs. The casket bearers were Hans S. Nelson, Nels P. Paulson, John L. Anderson, Nels Laueson, John Olson and Martin Jacobson. Interment was made at the Center cemetery.

Rev. Paulsrud read the following obituary of Mrs. Jorgenson, paying a fine tribute to her memory as well:

Obituary

Again one of the pioneers, Mrs. John Jorgenson, has come to the end of the trail. One by one these pioneers are stepping out of the line. They have put in a good day's work and they deserve a well earned rest. These pioneers belong to the old school and are somewhat different from the young stock. The older seem to be more sympathetic, more neighborly, hospitable and helpful. When we think of these qualities we miss them very much.

Mrs. Jorgenson had these qualities to a great extent and as a result she had many friends who loved and honored her. The two last years were trying years for Mrs. Jorgenson. During this time Mr. Jorgenson was very ill and required a great deal of care, day and night. At the same time she was not so very well herself. I visited the Jorgenson family often during Mr. Jorgenson's illness, but Mrs. Jorgenson never complained. In a Christian spirit she would say, "We are glad as long as we have John with us." Fortunately, the Jorgensons had their daughter, Anna, at home. She went beyond her strength to help her parents in and out of the house. She deserves much praise for her kind work.

Formerly the Jorgenson family belonged to the Danish Lutheran church in Jewell, but for some years now they have been active members of the Bethel Lutheran church at Story City.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of her native land. She came to America in May, 1893, and the same year, December 8, she was united in marriage to John Jorgenson of Story City. Her husband passed away June 2, 1942.

She leaves to mourn her departure a daughter, Anna, and a son, Lewis, an officer in the U.S. Army stationed at Petersburg, Va. She also leaves two grandchildren, brother in her homeland, and a host of friends.
