MRS. BEN THOMPSON

Martha Halsteen was born on May 31, 1962, in Stavanger, Norway, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. V. Lake, on Tuesday, May 19, just twelve days short of 80 years of age.

She came to America at about the age of 30 years, and for a time made her home with the O. F. Olson family in Randall. On December 11, 1895, she was married to Ben Thompson. Her husband preceded her in death in 1921. In addition, a son died in early childhood.

Since eight years ago she had made her home with her daughter in Ames. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Norway, she was a devoted reader of God's Word and a friend of missions.

She leaves to mourn her going two sons, Gerhard of Wayazata, Minn., and Maynard of Wheatland, N. D., a daughter, Mrs. Ella Lake of Ames, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Inga Jacobson of Morris, Minn. In addition there are five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church in Ames Friday, May 22, with Rev. A. Rogness officiating, and the singing was by members of the choir. Pall bearers were Eli Munson, Chas. Christian, Tom Mosness, Sivert Alsager, Edwin Edwinson and Andrew Christianson. A large number of Ames and Story City friends were in attendance to pay their last respects to a good friend and neighbor. Thirty dollars were given to missions in her memory. Interment was made in the Story City cemetery, where her husband is buried.
