Services Monday For Fern Stratton At EUB Church
Funeral services for Fern Leota Stratton were held from the Evangelical United Brethren church Monday afternoon, April 18, at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Donald M. Gruber officiating.
The many floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. Dale Allen, and Mrs. Lloyd Shickell. A large number of Memorial offerings were also given in her memory, showing the love and esteem in which she had been held in the community.
Two songs "In the Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Lowell Shickell, accompanied at the organ by Miss Beeula Settle.
The casket bearers were Lee Hoel, William Hoel, Guy Hoel, Burnell Hagen, Carl Oxley and Phil Overbaugh.
Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
Obituary
Fern Stratton was born Sept. 23, 1898, at Nevada, a daughter of Emma and John Hoel. She spent her entire life in the Nevada community, and passed to her eternal reward on Friday, April 15, following a long illness accompanied by much suffering.
Fern graduated from Nevada High School in 1917 and taught School here in Story County from 1919 to 1921. On March 9, 1921 she was married to Cyril Stratton. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by one brother, Roy, and one sister, Lovey. She leaves the following relatives to mourn her passing. Her husband Cyril, a son Harlan of LeMars, Iowa and daughter-in-law Dorothy Stratton and granddaughter Jacqueline. She also leaves 3 brothers, Lee Hoel and Wm. Hoel of Nevada, and Guy Hoel of Anoka, Minn.; four sisters, Hazel, Mrs. Carl Oxley, Ames; Gladys, Mrs. Phil Overbaugh; Genivive, Mrs. Burnell Hagen, both of Nevada; and Mabel, Mrs. J. D. Wade of Albuquerque, N. Mexico. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn her passing.
Fern was a faithful member and worker in the church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years, and only gave up this work about 4 years ago when failing health prevented further service. Her Christian influence and inspiration shall long remain with the family and friends who knew her Christian devotion and especially her patient suffering.

Dak.; and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Rosenberg of Reinbeck, Iowa.
