Mrs. Glenda Oolman, age 72, of Orange City, formerly of Hull, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Orange City Area Health System.
A visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, October 24, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. There will be a funeral service on Friday, October 25, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga and the Rev. Aaron Greydanus officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.
Glenda Dianne was born on August 8, 1952, in Sioux Center, the first of three children born to Bernard Allan and Luella Mae (Smit) Krommendyk. She grew up on a farm south of Perkins Corner and was a student at the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School in Hull, graduating in 1970.
She was united in marriage to Glendon Lee De Jong on August 5, 1970, in Hull. Together they made their home in Hull and were blessed with two children, Chris and Heidi. In addition to being a wife and mother, Glenda also worked at several local businesses until opening the Countryside Drive Inn on the east side of Hull in 1980. She operated the drive inn and provided catering services for more than 25 years. Later in life she worked as a jailer for the Sioux County Sheriff until retirement. Glen passed away on December 1, 2014, in Sioux City, after more than 44 years of marriage.
On December 31, 2015, she was married to Larry Dean Oolman in Hull. They continued to make their home in Hull until April of 2023, when they moved to Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center. Since May of this year, Larry and Glenda have been residents of the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
Mrs. Oolman was a life-long member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull where she had been treasurer of the kitchen committee for many years. She was widely known as being an excellent cook and baker and frequently hosted meals for her family. She also liked to sew and quilt, was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing games, especially Fast Track with her friends and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, of Orange City; a son, Christopher De Jong, of Le Mars; a daughter, Heidi Warntjes, and her partner, Blake Schipper, of Rock Rapids; two step-children, Chad Oolman; and Lori, and her husband, Darin Uhl, all of Orange City; six grandchildren, Blayre, Keenaen, Paige, and Mason De Jong; and Avery and Gavin Dokter; six step-grandchildren, Cadence and Tanith De Jong; Burke and Avery Uhl; and Jake and Dylan Schipper; three great-grandchildren, Kenai, Havyn, and Rowen; a brother and his wife, Donald and Mary Krommendyk, of Hull; and a sister, Laura Miller, of Milford; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Todd Warntjes.
Memorials will be given to the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School.
