Jensen Gabriel Heystek, infant son of Darren and Kelsey Heystek of Hull, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, November 12, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Calvary Protestant Reformed Church in Hull. A private family interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.
Jensen was born on October 29, 2024, at 4:54pm, at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He weighed 6 pounds and 10 ounces and measured 19.25 inches long. The nurses caring for him often commented on how strong and feisty he was, with quick little hands that would grab tightly onto his medical equipment. Often only the touch and voices of his parents could calm him down. Jensen’s middle name, Gabriel, was chosen for its Biblical meaning: “God is my strength”. Though his time on earth was brief, Jensen’s life was a testimony of what it means to trust in and rely on God’s grace and strength every moment of every day. He was a precious gift from God, fearfully and wonderfully made.
Survivors include his parents, Darren John and Kelsey Joy (Kooima) Heystek, and his three siblings, Camden, Aria, and Kallan; grandparents, John and Debbie Heystek and Glenn and Krista Kooima; aunts and uncles, Lisa and Titus Balvanz, Amanda and Trent Mowery, Grant Heystek, Thomas Heystek, Karissa Heystek, Justin and Vanessa Kooima, Jordan and Nicole Kooima, Shane Kooima, and Jamie Kooima; and great-grandparents, Jerry and Henrietta Kaptein and Char Groen.
He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Jacobus and Joan Heystek, Tim and Clarine Kooima, and Alvin Groen.
Memorials will be given to the family for future designation toward Sanford Children’s Hospital.
