Mrs. Gladys Eason, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
There will be a prayer service on Monday, November 11, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, followed by interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. A memorial service will take place on Monday, at 11:00am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. John Klompien and the Rev. John Tock officiating. A luncheon and time of visitation with the family will follow the memorial service at the church.
Gladys Nelvina was born on November 24, 1933, near Orange City, the daughter of John G. and Edna J. (Pennings) Fedders. She grew up on farms near Orange City, Boyden, and Carnes, where she attended country schools. She graduated from the Orange City Christian School and the Northwestern Classical Academy in Orange City, before working as a bookkeeper at the Vogel and Van De Brake Paint Store in Orange City.
On September 24, 1955, in Orange City, she was united in marriage to a neighbor boy, Leo F. Eason. Together they made their home on his family’s farm near Carnes, where in addition to being a wife and mother, she also raised laying hens and helped Leo with other farm duties. In 2000, she and Leo moved to a home in Orange City. Leo passed away on October 12, 2018, in Orange City, after 63 years of marriage. For the past several years, Gladys has been a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.
Gladys was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City where she taught Sunday School and participated in the Harmony Circle Society. She was also a mentor for Crossroads Prison Ministries. She appreciated her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Lyle and Wendy Eason, of Orange City; four grandchildren, Kimberly, and her husband, Chris Romkema, of Glenwood; Michelle Eason, of Orange City; Daniel Eason, of Maurice; and David Eason, of Orange City; three great-grandsons, Dawson, Beckett, and Tatum Romkema; a brother and his wife, Larry and Eileen Fedders, of Sheldon; and a sister and her husband, Joyce and Ronald Bradley, of Kearney, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, George T. and Jessie (Goslinga) Eason, a sister and her husband, Terri and Henry Vermilyea; and a brother and his wife, Ernest and JoAnn Fedders.
Memorials will be given to Orange City Christian School.
