Mrs. JoAnn Fedders, age 84, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, November 9, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, with Mr. Tom Hydeen officiating. Refreshments and a time of visitation with the family will take place at the church following the interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.
JoAnn Darlene was born on May 26, 1940, the third of four children born to Marion and Renzella (Vander Muellen) Klein. She was raised on the family farm by Maurice, attended country school, and graduated from Maurice High School in 1957.
On November 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ernest G. Fedders at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home on a farm near Carnes and later moved to a farm south of Orange City, where they were crop farmers and raised livestock. In addition to helping Ernie on the farm, JoAnn worked as a seamstress at the De Vries Drapery Shop and later worked at the Flower Cart and Hearts and Lace Bridal, all in Orange City. In 2006, JoAnn and Ernie moved to a home in Orange City, and in July of 2021, JoAnn became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center. After almost 65 years of marriage, Ernie passed away on September 29, 2023.
Mrs. Fedders was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. She was active in the children’s ministry, including teaching catechism and helping with the after-school program. As an experienced seamstress, she also liked volunteering as a 4-H leader. Spending time with family was important to her, and in addition to attending her grandchildren’s activities, she also stayed in touch with her friends in the community. She enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Florida, and Colorado, as well as taking trips to Amsterdam, Paris, and Hawaii.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Deborah and Robert Vander Plas, of Sioux Center; two sons, Jeff Fedders, and his friend, Carol Lepthein, of Broomfield, Colorado; and Brent Fedders, of Hospers; eight grandchildren, Alecia Vander Plas; Stacia, and her husband, Brad Van Berkel; Ryan Vander Plas, and his wife, Susan; Joshua Fedders; Amy Fedders; Akeyma Fedders; Korver Fedders; and Tytan Fedders; five great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Galena Klein, of Muscatine; Gladys Eason, of Orange City; and Joyce, and her husband, Ron Bradley, of Kearney, Missouri; a brother-in-law and his wife, Larry and Eileen Fedders; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Lila and Henry Kiers; two brothers, Clyde Klein; and Ron Klein, and his wife, Lois; a sister-in-law and her husband, Terry and Henry Vermilyea; and a brother-in-law, Leo Eason.
Memorials will be given to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
