Ms. Debra Van Bruggen, age 69, of Orange City, formerly of Ireton, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Orange City Area Health System.
A visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday, December 14, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, at 2:00pm, at Prairie Ridge with the Rev. Nate Kuperus officiating. A private family interment will follow the service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.
Debra Sue, known as Debbie, was born on January 19, 1955, in Hawarden, the special daughter of Arie and Ann (Schiebout) Van Bruggen. She attended special education classes in Hawarden and Sioux Center, and later lived and worked at Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
In her later years, she lived at Village Northwest in Sheldon, and in 2013, moved to the Sunrise Cottage at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. She enjoyed fixing puzzles, singing and taking walks.
Survivors include her sister and her husband, Arlene and Bob Feekes, of Orange City; four brothers and their wives, Marv and Jan Van Bruggen, of Urbandale; Glen and Anita Van Bruggen, of Sioux Center; Kevin and Connie Van Bruggen, of George; and Mike and Randee Van Bruggen, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Van Bruggen; a nephew and his wife, Jason and Christine Top; and a nephew-in-law, Brock Midthun.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to all of the staff of Sunrise Cottage for the loving care Debbie received during the years she lived there.
Memorials may be given to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
