Lydia Kent was born near Portland Mills, Putnam county, Ind., April 11, 1833 and died March 31, 1905, being at the time of her death 71 years, 11 months and 20 days old.
In early womanhood she moved with her parents to Brooklyn, Iowa, where on July 17, 1856, she was united in marriage with Henry L. Bagenstos of Montezuma, who died March 11, 1872. To this union was born eleven children, six boys and five girls. In March 1883, she came to Holstein, where she has since resided. The following children survive her. Mrs. Reuben Lawrence of Belle Plaine, Joseph H. Bagenstos of Boomer, Mo., Mrs. George D. Stoneking of Cushing, Mrs. August Fritz, Oliver D., Arthur H. and Irvan Bagenstos of Holstein, Iowa.
In 1883 when Mrs. Bagenstos came west after her husband's death the children were quite young and for a number of years she had to bear heavy burdens in caring and providing for them all.
She was a kind and affectionate mother and was greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends. Funeral conducted from Silver church Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. by Rev. H. A. Keck.
