Funeral services for Wayne Irey, 86, West Liberty, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 22 at the West Liberty Chapel of Barker Funeral Home. The body will be cremated after the service, with burial in the Oak Ridge cemetery, West Liberty.

Mr. Irey died Nov. 20 at the Crestview Care Center in West Branch, following an extended illness.

A graduate of West Branch high school, Mr. Irey attended business college in Cedar Rapids and was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago.

Mr. Irey married Margaret Whitacre in 1936 in West Liberty.

He and Alvah Nichols owned and operated a confectionary in West Liberty. Following Mr. Nichols' death he became the sole owner and operated the business for 37 years, retiring in 1967. He had also worked at the former People's State Bank in West Liberty. 

Mr. Irey was a member of the K P Lodge and the West Liberty Golf Club. He served 2 terms on the West Liberty city council.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marilyn Irey, West Liberty; a brother, Glen "Sam", West Branch and 2 nieces.
