In Response To: great-grandfather (Jan & Milt Dahlgren)

Milt, Oscar was my Great Great Grandfather. I was doing some research on our family tree some years ago and found the following obituary text. I'm currently setting up a genealogy website in hopes of getting a few other family member's help in tracing our ancestors.

On February 14, 1888, Oscar received his homestead document signed by President Grover Cleveland for 160 acres of land north of Holdrege. There the raised their four children in a two-story house surrounded by prairie grasses, grain fields and the Nebraska wind.

In 1910, Enoch got married and took over the home place. A smaller house was built for Oscar and Christina not far away. The home place was lost when Enoch died in 1929 at age 49.

From the July 1931 "The Holdrege (Nebraska) Citizen"?Obituary?Oscar Dahlgren was born July 17, in Djursdala, Kalmar Sweden and came to the ?United States in 1866 locating first at Andover, Illinois where he remained for ?four years. He then went to Red Oak, Iowa where he resided until year 1880 when ?he moved to Phelps county, Nebraska where he remained until the time of his ?death.?October 15, 1871 Mr. Dahlgren was united in marriage to Christina Nelson and ?this union was blessed with six children, three having preceeded their father in ?death, two dying in infancy, and Enoch passing away about a year and a half ago.?Mr. Dahlgren passed away last Wednesday at the home of his son, Emil. At the ?time of his death he had attained the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 13 days. ?His wife departed this life just seven years ago. He now leaves to mourn his ?death, his two sons, Emil and Frank, and a daughter, Mrs. Vina Asp, also 13 ?grandchildren and two great grandchildren, together with a large number of ?friends and acquaintances.?The funeral was held Friday afternoon, a short service being first conducted ?at the home of the sone, Emil, and then from the Evangelical church. Interment ?was at the Moses Hill cemetery, Rev. H. G. Rodine officiating.
