Alta Pauline Hunter Hall was born in Taylor County north of Nodaway, IA on February 7, 1906 and went to her home Friday morning, September 16, 1988 at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 16 days. She was the oldest of eight children born to George Washington and Vida Williams Hunter.

Alta attended Pierce School in northwest Taylor County for six years, then two years in Nodaway Township in Adams County. She entered high school in 1919 and graduated from Nodaway Consolidated High School. She then entered Simpson College in Indianola, for two years and received her teacher's certificate. She was a member of the Onucron Sorority. Alta taught school in Taylor County for two years, and then in McClellan, Iowa and Hastings. In 1932 after graduating from cosmetic and beauty college, she started her own beauty shop in her home and operated this business until 1952. At this time, she returned to teaching at the Strahan Community School and taught there until 1971. She also taught for the Nishna Valley School.

Alta Hunter and Charley Hall were united in marriage May 24, 1932 at Maryville, MO. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. Alta was received into the Nodaway Unite Methodist Church December 24, 1916, and transferred her membership to Hastings on November 28, 1937.

She was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Hastings United Methodist Women, the Hasting Cemetery Association, and was secretary of the Hastings Sunday School. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Emerson Chapter No. 121 and Past Matrons.

She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Dillon of Vancouver, WA and Dora Simmons of Shenandoah; four sisters-in-law, Vera Cronkhite of Malvern, Fleta Hunter of Nodaway, Beulah Hunter of Bedford, and Mae Hunter of Corning; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charley; her parents; four brothers and one sister.

Memorial services for Alta Hall were held Sunday, September 18, 1988 at 2:30 p.m. in the Hastings United Methodist Church with Rev. George Weitzel officiating. Horace Richardson was the organist and Mrs. Charles Vestal, soloist, sang "One Day at a Time". The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Dean Darby, Roger Smith, Roger Hudson, Ray Hites, Jack Courtier, and Russell Perkins. Flower ladies were Mrs. Dean Darby, Mrs. David Edie and Mrs. Max Bachler.

Fraternal Rites were given by the Order of Eastern Star, Emerson Chapter No. 121. Mrs. Russell Perkins was at the registry book while Mark Darby and Chip Hudson were ushers. Interment was at the Hastings Cemetery. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

NOTES: her mother's middle name was Almet. Alta died in Red Oak, IA. Memorials were to the Hastings Methodist Church or Hastings Cemetery Driveway Fund.
