LELAND DENBURGER
August 29, 1928 - December 16, 2011
Oskaloosa

Leland Denburger, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born Aug. 29, 1928, at Oskaloosa the son of Fred and Avis DeLong Denburger. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1946. While in high school he was very involved with F.F.A. earning the American Farmer Degree. On Feb. 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Stout. To this union two children Pam and Randy were born. They later divorced. Early on he farmed for a short while; he then went to work selling feed for Mahaska Feed and Grain. On February 8, 1986, he was united in marriage to Karen Patrick at Bussey, Iowa. He went to work; selling feed for Wake’s Feed in Oskaloosa and Albia for over 40 years. He also worked for Pork Tech. and the Pella Co-Op. Lastly he worked for New Alliance Farm Service, retiring from there in 2007. Early on Leland enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and bowling. He also enjoyed coon hunting and raising coon dogs, and collecting guns. He truly loved the out of doors be it for work or play. Leland had a lifelong love of agriculture and especially for livestock. He had horses and jumping mules for a time. He shared his love of agriculture by being a 4-H leader and helping organize the Cow Calf conference in Ottumwa. He looked forward to the Iowa State Fair every year. Leland was always up for a round of golf. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. He served on the Coal Creek Cemetery Board as treasurer for many years, and also served on the Oskaloosa Livestock Board.

His family includes his wife Karen Denburger of Oskaloosa; a son and his wife: Randy and Sheila Denburger of rural Oskaloosa; a daughter and her husband: Pam and Michael Hadley of Richland; six grandchildren: Andy Denburger, Katie (& Brian) Eipers, Sarah (& Tom) Martin, Betsy (& Joe) Miller, Kim (& Mark) Wallace and Tessie (& Chris) Skeels; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a step son and his wife: Scott and Lisa Patrick of Pershing; two step daughters and their husbands: Shari and Rusty Roberts of Marysville, and Sheli and Tim Patrick of Knoxville; eight step grandchildren: Adam (& Amanda) Roberts, Trevor Roberts, Jarrod Lee, Dylan Lee, Dalton Lee, Brenden Scott, Austin Shives, and Landon Patrick; two step great grandchildren; his twin brother and his wife: Leo and Blanche Denburger of Oskaloosa; a sister: Lois Bainbridge of Oskaloosa; his mother in law: Mildred Vanderhorst of Oskaloosa; two brothers in law: Don (& Jackie) Vanderhorst of Knoxville, and Lyle (& Ann) Vanderhorst of Albia. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter: Amy Hulbert; his father in law: Raymond Vanderhorst; and a brother in law: William “Wigg” Bainbridge.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating. Burial will be in the Coal Creek Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-8 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
