Taken from the issue of November 27, 1869: Died on Friday last, F. X. Maurer, in the forty-fifth year of his age. Deceased was born in Switzerland in 1824, came to this country in 1847 and has been a resident of Wapello since 1854. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn their loss. He was a kind man and good neighbor, and might have been a useful member of the community but for one unfortunate habit, over which we drop the mantle of charity. Peace be with him.
