Sylvanus Stanley Hontz was born near Columbus Junction July 14, 1876, and died at the home of his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Hontz in Muscatine, Iowa, Saturday, October 27, at the age of 44 years, 3 months and 14 days. He was married to Miss Estella Shafer in 1898, and she departed this life in February 1916. Deceased is survived by two sons, Glenn and Lee, seven brothers, Albert of Milton, Robert of Winfield, George of Conesville, David, Frank and Jesse of Muscatine; the other is not known to us and one sister, Mrs. Eugene Metzgar of Winfield. Funeral services were held in the First M. E. church at Wapello, October 29, at 11 a. m., conducted by Rev. W. S. Moore, pastor. He was laid to rest in the Wapello cemetery.
