Page 1Mary Jane Aronhalt was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, July 8, 1851, and departed this life at 2 o'clock Monday morning, October 15, 1917, at her home in Morning Sun, after a lingering illness. She was aged at the time of her death 66 years, 3 months and 7 days. She has been a resident of Iowa for 63 years and was a woman of great industry and strong executive ability as the management of her two farms signified. March 11, 1865, she was united in marriage with Mr. John Higgins. He departed this life in 1907. Five children were born to the union, as follows: Mrs. Maria E. Williams, Reynolds, Neb.; Guy C. Higgins, Golden, Colo.; Mrs. Margueritta Finley, Morning Sun and Mrs. Phronia Caparoon, on the home place, near Morning Sun.
For many years the deceased patiently and willingly bore the heavy tasks incident to the management of her farms, but in spite of the heavy burdens she was carrying she found ample time to minister to others in their need and her neighbors testify to her kindly disposition and generosity. In recent months her mind dwelt much upon spiritual things and only her God and Saviour know how often her petitions ascended heavenward.
Funeral services were held from the late home of the deceased Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 17, at 2 o'clock conducted by the Rev. A. E. Cameron and assisted by members of the First Presbyterian church choir. A large number of relatives, friends and neighbors were present to pay their last respects to the deceased. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery.
