Joseph Hicklin Garrett, youngest son of Mrs. Ella Garrett, of this city, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, in a hospital at Kansas City, Mo., where he had been taken last Thursday for treatment. Death came as a relief from great suffering with a fungus growth in the abdominal cavity which he endured for several months. He had received treatment at Davenport, Burlington and Rochester, Minn., hospitals but they could do nothing for him. Last week he asked to be taken to Kansas City hoping that the physicians there might be able to help him.

He was born on a farm east of Wapello, April 30, 1892 and was 25 years, 4 months and 19 days of age. He spent his boyhood days on the farm and was educated in the rural schools. He came to town several years ago to live with his mother and since then has been employed in the Schwob garage here, and as a machinist in plants at Rock Island and Detroit. He was married about a year ago and his wife lives in Davenport. Those who survive are: His father and mother, two brothers, Robert of Wapello and Arthur of Laredo, Mo. Funeral services will be held at his late home in Wapello Friday, Sept. 21, at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. Anderson. Interment in Wapello cemetery.
