Page 8The Muscatine Journal tells of the death of a former resident of Wapello which occurred in that city Tuesday morning. Calvin R. McDaniel, one of the best known residents of the south part of the city, passed away at 11 o'clock this morning, after suffering a paralytic stroke only a few hours before. The announcement of his sudden death was received with the greatest surprise and deepest sorrow by his large acquantanceship. Mr. McDaniel, who operated a small button cutting plant near Hershey ave had departed from his home on that street shortly before 7 o'clock to start a fire at the factory, and while engaged in that work he was stricken. He was crippled by the stroke and was unable to walk when found by his son, Donald, a short time later. He was removed to his home, but was not thought to be critical until a short time before his death.
Mr. McDaniel was very well known in this city and also at Wapello, Ia. He was born in the latter city 61 years ago and spent his youth at that place. He was united in marriage to Miss Laura Bird about 35 years ago and 13 years ago occurred the death of his wife. Six years later he was married to Mrs. J. Ryan, who survives him. Four children, who are the following also mourn his death: Miss Fannie and Donald of this city, George L. of Washington, Ia and William H. of California. The funeral was conducted from the Mulford Congregational church in that city this morning at 10 o'clock. Interment in Glenwood cemetery.
