Page 1Mr. Henry Alcorn Johnston, an old pioneer of Morning Sun, died at his home in that city Friday at about 1 a. m. He had been in feeble health for several years, but had been confined to his bed for only a few weeks. Mr. Johnston was born January 20, 1827, in Beaver county, Pennsylvania and was married to Eliza Jane Potts, December 26, 1850, to the same county. Together they came to Iowa April 6, 1857. They resided on a farm in this county until a few years ago, when they moved to town where they have resided since. To this union was born seven children, one having passed away. The following children, together with the widow survive the husband and father: Albert Johnston, of Sterling, Neb.; Mrs. Fred Sefton, of Galesburg, Ill.; Mrs. Sid Draper, Harry B. and Ed. S., all of Denver and Mrs. O. E. Hall, of Powell, Wyo.
Mr. Johnston was widely known in this community and will be mourned by a large circle of friends. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at the time of his death. All his children except, Mrs. O. E. Hall were present at the time of his death. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. E. Cameron, assisted by Dr. Trumbull. Interment in the Elmwood cemetery.
