Anna Bowen Hannan was born in van Buren County, Iowa, September 7th, 1843. She moved with her parents to Wapello, Louisa county, Iowa, in the fall of 1866. She was married to Henry W. Hannan, March 9, 1862, To this union were born seven children. Two of the children are deceased, and her husband passed away in September, 1908. Two brother, Ben Bowen of Des Moines, and Asa Bowen, Sharon Springs, Kansas and five daughters, Mrs. Julie Sprinkle, of Mendova, Washington; Mrs. E. Downer, of this place; Mrs. John Sprinsteen, of Newport, Mrs. Duke Wallingford, of Wapello and Mrs Ella Anderson of Dakota survive her.

She was a member of the Dunkard church at South English. She was a faithful woman and when ever an opportunity presented itself she was in attendance upon the worship of her church. She made many friends who will greatly miss her. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Downer on June 6th, 1911, and was at her death aged 67 years, 8 months and 29 days. She has been ill for many weeks. The last few days of her life she grew rapidly weaker and gradually fell asleep. Short services were held at the home Wednesday at 1 o'clock and the remains were taken to Fairview church where services were held and interment made. The services were conducted by Rev. M. E. Reusch.
