Page 1Mrs. Margaret Hus Graham died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Kirkpatrick, in Wapello, Ia., February 16, aged 78 years and 6 months. She was born in Preble county, Ohio, August 16, 1832. She was the youngest of a family of thirteen children, seven boys and six girls. In the year 1849 she was united in marriage with Jesse Graham, deceased. Together with her husband she came to Iowa in the year 1850, locating in Wapello. She was the mother of eight children seven of whom are still living, one having died in infancy. They are Mary E. Bird, of Mizpa, Minn.; George R., of Burlington; Emma J. Lowe, of Redondo Beach, Cal.; Ida M. Aubrey, of Keithsburg, Ill.; Elmer, of Oskaloosa, and Sarah A. Kirkpatrick, of Wapello, Ia. She had twenty-seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She has witnessed the growth of this section of Iowa from its beginning, her husband having helped to build the old dam and race of the Wapello mill. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. Jas. Semple and Mrs. David McMichael, both of whom were among the early pioneers of Wapello; also David Huls, who at one time lived on the Wapello prairie, three miles west of Wapello. She is the last of her father's family. Since the death of her husband, fourteen years ago, she has made her home with her son, George R., of Burlington and her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Kirkpatrick of Wapello.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Wapello until her removal to Burlington, where she became a member of the U. P. church. She was a faithful to her church and home and has many friends who will miss her from their midst. The funeral was held from the Christian church in Wapello, Iowa, Saturday, February 18, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. L. Graham, of Burlington, assisted by Rev. William A. Hunt, of the Christian church and Derexa Rebekah Lodge no. 129, of which she was a member. Interment in Wapello cemetery.
