Joe I. Hora, 71, died at the Anamosa Community hospital Sunday, May 8, 1972 after a lingering illness.
He was born at Oxford Junction April 20, 1901, the son of Louie and Edna Coon Hora. He received his early education in area schools and on March 27, 1926 was married to Alice Tenley. They have always made their home in the Morley community where he operated a trucking business for several years; he was later employed in Cedar Rapids. Before his retirement he was employed by the county and drove a school bus.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Robert, Anamosa; Darrell, Manchester; Mrs. Roger (Diane) Onken, Monticello; eight grandchildren; six brothers and sisters: Loren Hora, Cedar Rapids; Howard and Leonard Hora, Wyoming; Mrs. Merwyn Switzer, Morley; Mrs. Freeman Shankland, Anamosa; and Mrs. Richard Smouse, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services were held at Goettsch Funeral home Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Brown Garlock officiating. Interment was in the Stanwood cemetery.
Casketbearers were Howard Hora, Jack Switzer, Richard Switzer, Gene Smith, Leonard Austin, Russell Tenley.
