C. Ernest Hartwig 1909-1972

OLIN - C. Ernest Hartwig, 63, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 15 at his farm home near Hale. Prayer service was held at Hayden's funeral home, Olin, Tuesday, April 18, with memorial services at St. John American Lutheran church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Harold Tegtmeier conducted the services. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included Loren Hartwig, Mark Hartwig, Lee Burgard, Joe Lasack, Ned Paulsen and Nick Paulsen.

Mrs. Larry Scharff was organist and Steve Kutchat, soloist. Selections included "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go." and "How Great Thou Art."

He was born west of Olin Jan. 27, 1909, the son of Karl E. and Anna Caroline Westphal Hartwig. He moved to his present home when he was one year old.

He attended rural schools near his home and graduated from Olin high school in 1927. He was married to Doris Mae Ingwersen Sept. 13, 1947 at St. John church. He served in various capacities on the church council and was Hale township 4-H leader for five years.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; a son, Lance Eric, at home; a daughter, Gayle Beth, a student at Wartburg college, one brother, Robert, Lisbon; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Reber and Mrs. Arthur Burgard, both of Monroe, Mich.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Louis and Leonard.
