OLIN - Mrs. Eulalia Belle Rohwedder died Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the Convalescent home, Clarence, following a lengthy illness. On Wednesday Mrs. Rohwedder would have been 79.
Family prayer service was held at St. Paul's United Methodist church at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, with memorial services at the church at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Lloyd Dutro was in charge of the services. Vocalist, Mrs. Merle Ballou, sang. "In The Garden" and "Going Down The Valley". Mrs. Ronald Rogers was organist. Casket bearers were Louis Winchip, Galen Winchip, Wade Winchip, Michael Myers, Richard Myers and Rex Rohwedder.
She was born Feb. 16, 1893, daughter of Sherman and Mary Belle Lam Merritt, in Rome township, Jones County. She grew up in the neighborhood where she was born and attended country school nearby. She graduated from Olin high school in 1913. Feb. 6, 1918 she was united in marriage to Carl Rohwedder at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Rohwedder continued to live on the home farm until about four years ago when they moved to their home in Olin.
She had been a member of the United Brethren church since early youth and for many years had been a member of the former Olin United Brethren church, now St. Paul's United Methodist. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid society and had served as its president. She was a member and past matron of Hiawatha Chapter 394 Order of Eastern Star, Olin; of the Wapsi Valley club and the Alturist club in Olin.
Survivors include her husband, Carl; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Alice) Winchip, Anamosa, and Mrs. Paul (Esther) Myers, Olin; seven grandchildren; a brother, Harold Merrit, Anamosa; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Condit and Mrs. Delbert (Blanche) Brickley, Anamosa.
