OXFORD JUNCTION - Mrs. Frank (Emma) Shimerda, 101, died Sunday, Jan. 30 at Brandt Nursing home, Wyoming. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Oxford Junction United Methodist church with the Rev. Rodney Turner officiating. Burial was in Mayflower cemetery.

Pallbearers were Otto Koranda, James Clapp, Tom Hunwardsen, Louis Ingwersen, Alfred Leeper and Neal Bright.

She was born Dec. 1, 1870 in Jackson county, the daughter of Frank and Anna Bedzichek Sokol. She attended Cornell college one year and taught in the rural schools near Onslow. On Dec. 25, 1895, she was married in Onslow to Frank Shimerda. The couple moved to Oxford Junction in 1905; Mr. Shimerda died in 1929. Mrs. Shimerda continued to live at her home until about four years ago; since then she has resided at the nursing home.

Blind for nearly 20 years, Mrs. Shimerda had memorized over 100 telephone numbers, and was able to visit with friends on the phone. She was a member of the United Methodist church, and was an OES member for over 60 years.

She is survived by a son, George, Oxford Junction; a granddaughter, Mrs. Don (Jeannette) Aldee, Marshalltown, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and two brothers.
