OLIN - Edgar Dallas Simmons, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 30 at a Davenport hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held at Sheets Funeral home, Tipton, Monday, Jan. 3 with burial at Tipton. The Rev. Miller, Tipton, conducted the service. Pallbearers included Larry Gronewald, Don Lyon, Charles J. Hick, William Smothers, Delmar Maiden and Galen Darrow.
He was born near Olin Oct. 4, 1896, the son of William and Ada Hammond Simmons. He was married to Lillie Klinkkammer Oct. 12, 1921; couple observed their 50th anniversary last fall. Simmons was a farmer and carpenter.
He enlisted in the army during World war I, serving in England and France with the Rainbow division. He was a charter member of Blayney-Miner Post 412, Olin. At the time of his death, he was a member of Gary Whale Post 123, Tipton.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Malvern, Rock Island, Ill.; five grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. Max (Gladys) Jurgensen, Morley; Mrs. Charles (Percie) Lyon, Mrs. Elva Monroe, Mrs. Marguerite Moreland, Olin; Mrs. Ira (Erma) Maiden, Mrs. Alta Darrow, Martelle; four brothers, Parley, Anamosa; Wilber, Scotch Grove; Delbert, Olin; Marvin Dean, Belmont, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and an infant son.
