Vivian Weldon, 97, of Iowa City passed away January 3, 2025 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family.

To celebrate Vivian’s life, services will be held to honor both Vivian and her son, Jim who passed away two days before her death. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service followed by a gathering for family and friends until 6:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4832992. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Michael Cemetery in Holbrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael Cemetery or Iowa City Hospice.

Vivian was born on November 4, 1927 in Crawfordsville, Iowa to Jay and Esther (Olson) Orris. She graduated from Williamsburg High School before receiving her Teaching Certificate from Iowa State Teachers College. Vivian married James “Red” Weldon on August 23, 1947 in Parnell, Iowa and together the couple raised their nine children.

Aside from raising her children, she was a Country Schoolteacher for four years before becoming a grill cook at Seven Villages in Amana for 20 years before retirement.

Vivian enjoyed baking cookies and vegetable gardening. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Holbrook. She was fiercely independent and stubborn, and you always knew where you stood with her as she was always comfortable to say what was on her mind.

She is survived by her children Pat (Garry) Yauk, Jeff (Sally) Weldon, Tim Weldon, Ron (Kathy) Weldon, Doug (Karen) Weldon, daughters-in-law Sandy Weldon, Sue Weldon, Lea Weldon, Helen Weldon, Sharon Weldon and Shari Weldon, 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and siblings-in-law John and Sue Weldon.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband Red Weldon, three sons Dan, Tony, and Jim, daughter Peg, grandsons Brian Yauk and Nick Weldon, and great-grandson Kyler Stockton.
