Robert Amos “Bob” Ryan III, 81, of Coralville, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Highland Ridge, Williamsburg, IA.

Robert was born on October 7, 1943, in Mountain Grove, MO, the son of Robert and Frances (Sells) Ryan Jr. He graduated from Fairfield (IA) High School in 1961. Robert received his BA in History from Northwestern University in Evansville, IL in 1965. He later obtained his MA and Ph D in British History from The University of Iowa.

He was a partner in Dennett, Muessig, Ryan & Associates for over twenty years. During these years he was involved with various photogrammetry projects. Robert designed and managed long term stereophotogrammetric recording of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Another lengthy recording was for the White House, done for the National Park Service, over a 11 year period.

In the later years of his career, he was a technical writer for McLeod USA. After his retirement, he worked part-time as a tennis referee for The University of Iowa tennis teams and for Iowa USSSA events.

Robert was married to Elaine Cremeens on June 10, 1965, at McKinley Presbyterian Church in Champaign, IL; she preceded him in death in 2015.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Paige (Travis) McGee of Neola, IA and their children, McKenzie Hoffman of New York, NY and Hunter Hoffman of Neola, IA; two siblings, Margaret (David) Turner of Albuquerque, NM; and Janet Heinrichs of Flagstaff, AZ; sister-in-law, Tomi Ryan of El Dorado Hills, CA; and many extended family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John, and wife, Elaine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Special Olympics, where Bob enjoyed umpiring tennis events.
